This Yoga Alliance-approved training is designed to free and decolonize the mind, offering a clearer path forward in life, career, and relationships. Rooted in the wisdom of ancient civilizations that viewed the world through a similar lens of balance and harmony, this deep dive into physical and mental alignment goes beyond a certification. You’ll leave not only with the credentials but with a profound love for yourself and a deeper understanding of your true potential. This is an inclusive training where to be decolonized is to love who you are. Love is acceptance.

Ja has spent the past 15 years developing this training around the concept of personal responsibility, drawing on ancient wisdom from the Nile Valley (Kemetic), the Indus Valley (Yogic), and South America (Mayan and Toltec). Co-created at The Tree in 2014, Ja led the program from 2017-2024, shaping his unique Decolonized approach to the practice. The aim of this training is to free our minds from the sense of separation that limits our true potential. This is a deep dive into Vinyasa Yoga from Sri Tirumalai Krishnamacharya who introduced Vinyasa Krama. His students K. Pattabhi Jois (fouder of Ashtanga) and B. K. S. Iyengar (founder of Iyengar Yoga who introduced props) would go on to inspire teachers like Bryan Kest founder of Power Yoga later called Vinyasa Yoga. By the end of the program, you can expect to be stronger and more flexible in your personal practice, a significant reduction in stress and anxiety, greater clarity in your path forward, improved relationships, and become a Yoga Alliance certified Decolonized Yoga Teacher.
As an E-RYT 500HR Yoga Alliance-approved and Nike Trainer, Ja's students have gone on to teach globally, from Hot8 and CorePower Studios in LA to yoga studios in Chicago, France, Japan, Germany, and more. The training's foundation is Decolonized Philosophy, also known as the "Red Pill," along with anatomy-centered sequencing, in-depth asana breakdowns, Patanjali’s 8 Limbs of Yoga, and the mission of Social Equity, guided by the principles of Ma'at (the Kemetic Goddess of truth, harmony, and justice). You’ll gain essential business and marketing tools to launch your yoga career. Yoga can be a powerful vehicle for social equity, inspiring you to build more just and inclusive communities and relationships. We are committed to providing a safe space for all to learn how to listen and meet others where they are—without judgment or expectation. The best teachers are first and foremost students.
Through Ja's "Red Pill" conversations, students are encouraged to find their authentic voice and expression of the practice. Taking the "Red Pill" is an invitation to discover the power of your individual experience and the beliefs that may hold you back. Yoga is not about always being sunny, it's acknowledging our faults our shadows, or our moons. This training goes beyond Asana, Anatomy, and sequencing—it's leadership development, relationship healing, stress relief, and soul liberation. By the end, you will experience a transformative shift in perspective that can change your life. Not mention the deep connection created by a like minded group of yogis on the same journey.

More about the scholarship:
We interview all applicants for the Seva Scholarship by the listed deadline. Typically, 2 students per cohort are awarded the scholarship. The interviews help us assess your practice, financial need, and ability to fulfill the 40 volunteer hours required. If awarded the Seva Scholarship, your training tuition will be $1600. In exchange, you’ll complete 40 hours of volunteer work, which may include cleaning the studio, assisting at the front desk, and contributing your unique skills (such as social media marketing, graphic design, photography, or writing) to support the studio’s needs.
