I have been a yogi for 19 years, an instructor for 14 years, a trainer for 7 yrs. I've also been a Life Coach for over 10 years, working with clients from all walks of life and helping them navigate through life's challenges. My background in yoga allows me to provide a holistic approach to coaching.

Ja Cole is a transformational yoga educator, cultural architect, and founder of Maat Wellness. He is co-founder of The Tree Yoga Cooperative and co-owner of Lotus Wellness & Yoga, and a 500HR E-RYT with nearly two decades of practice.
For over 15 years, Ja has led large-scale classes and highly regarded teacher trainings in Los Angeles, mentoring hundreds of yoga teachers through programs described as “life-changing,” “deeply intentional,” and “empowering.” His work integrates alignment, sequencing, philosophy, trauma-informed practice, business development, and decolonization—preparing teachers to hold space with technical excellence and cultural integrity.
Before dedicating his life to yoga, Ja built a successful career as a computer networking and software engineer, designing systems for companies including Abbott, Disney, and Healthcare Partners. A personal awakening led him to examine the “mental programming” shaping identity and society, sparking a deep study of ancient civilizations, theology, mythology, philosophy, and spirituality. His research revealed a unifying principle: across Kemetic, Mayan, Indus, and other ancient traditions, cultures taught systems of mental and physical alignment—forms of yoga rooted in self-mastery and responsibility.
Ja began practicing yoga in 2005 and published his first book, Sea of Circles, in 2010, exploring self-responsibility and consciousness. He completed his first 200HR certification in 2011 with Yogaden, later training extensively with Just Yoga, and in 2019 completed his 500HR certification through Annie Carpenter’s SmartFlow Yoga program.
In 2013, Ja joined the board of a South Los Angeles nonprofit and helped co-create a 200HR Teacher Training program that would later evolve into what is now one of the most respected and culturally impactful yoga schools in the city. Many of today’s studio founders and wellness leaders in his community are graduates of programs he helped design and lead.
Ja’s mission is to build sustainable wellness institutions rooted in ancient wisdom, cultural pride, economic empowerment, and community healing. Through Maat Wellness, he is creating a new model of yoga education—where mindfulness, self-responsibility, and social justice converge as both spiritual practice and viable business.
